The BMA is proud to have sponsored the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) UK Summer Drinks which was held at the IMO building in during the summer. The BMA continues to be an advocate of women in shipping and, in fact, the current and past Chairman of the BMA’s Board of Directors are female so this support of WISTA aligns closely with both The BMA’s and the broader Bahamas’ commitment to UN sustainability development goal 5 – gender equality.
In addition to the drinks reception, the 100 plus guests also celebrated the WISTA UK personalities of the year and took part in a collection to raise funds for the MLOCS charity which will fund a female seafarer this year.
Captain Dwain Hutchinson, The BMA’s Managing Director and CEO, was present at the event. He said: “This is The BMA’s first collaboration with the UK branch of WISTA and I hope there will be more opportunities for future partnership with WISTA and other Women in Maritime Associations. As an industry, we must continue to encourage more women to become marine professionals and contribute to a sector that is critical to the global economy.”
