Celebrating women in the industry, the second IMO International Day for Women in Maritime, under the theme Mobilizing Networks for Gender Equality, will be every bit as impactful as the first.
The day was marked by the IMO with a Global Conference of the IMO Women in Maritime Associations with the aim of raising the profile of women in the sector by enabling collaboration, networking and the sharing of experiences. The Bahamas was honoured that The Bahamian Minister of Housing and Transport, JoBeth Coleby-Davis, spoke at the event held at the IMO Headquarters in London. Minister Coleby-Davis was joined by a number of distinguished female maritime speakers supporting the IMO’s objective of addressing the current gender imbalance in the maritime sector and driving gender equality.
The BMA is fully committed to supporting initiatives that promote the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 – Gender Equality – and is firmly of the opinion that Women can:
- Be leaders onboard and ashore
- Do the heavy lifting
- Steer the future of shipping
- Be elite problem solvers
We join the international community in recognising, and celebrating, all the competent and professional women who work in maritime doing a vital job in this important global industry. We know that their contribution will serve to attract the next generation of female personnel to this vibrant sector. #WomenInMaritimeDay
